白度母的藏名是Drolkar，他是二十一度母中的一員，故此他的本源便是綠度母。
 
二十一度母皆源出於綠度母，但卻各有其殊勝功德，而白度母便是為眾生賜予長壽的度母。
 
在印度及西藏佛教中，有許多延壽本尊，最著名的是白度母、尊勝母及無量壽佛，他們三尊被合稱為“長壽三尊”。
